You have heard of a Doula, you know that lady that is physically with you during labor and delivery, but what about a Virtual Doula?
A few years ago, when I first started on my doula journey, the thought had crossed my mind that I could be a virtual doula. At first, I was excited about the idea and then all the questions came flooding in: How could this happen? What would a virtual doula look like? Would I provide support during labor even though I wasn’t physically there? These and more questions kept swirling around my head. I decided to do what I usually do and search “Virtual Doula”. That wasn’t much help at all, I couldn’t find a thing on how to be a virtual doula. For a hot minute, I was considering taking this on by myself but I had no idea what I was doing. So I left it alone. It didn’t come back up until recently.
I saw a fellow birthworker post about being a virtual doula! I did a little happy dance inside when I saw that!! Cool beans!! Someone has picked it up! I was excited, I just became a Certified Doula through The Matrona and I had been to many different workshops and such. I felt more confident in what I knew and how I could help fellow moms. Now is the perfect time for me to set this up and offer this to potential clients!
I have just moved from West TN to Northern FL. I’m having to start over with getting into the local birth world and connecting with fellow doulas as well as midwives. I also need to figure out the birth culture in this area and how well doctors and nurses collaborate with doulas and midwives. I have been in FL for two weeks almost three and I’m slowly getting back into my work. I’m without a babysitter right now so being a Virtual Doula is right up my alley at the moment.
